Sonia Sanchez is a nationally renowned African-American poet, writer, playwright, and activist. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1934 and currently resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is the author of over eighteen books, including Homegirls and Handgrenades, Shake Loose My Skin, and most recently Morning Haiku. Recorded live in New York City; guest curated by PEN World Voices and Symphony Space.
